The Dove World Outreach Center in Florida has decided to protest the building of a mosque near Ground Zero by burning the Qur'an on September 11 because it is a religion "of the devil."

It really shocks me how, in this day and age, people are so close-minded. The church is also protesting the gay mayor of their hometown.

Many people, not just Muslims, are protesting this. The National Association of Evangelicals has said "The proposed burning of Qurans would be profoundly offensive to Muslims worldwide, just as Christians would be insulted by the burning of Bibles."

There is a Facebook page protesting this event called "STOP THE BURNING OF THE QURAN," for anyone who will want to join it.

Everything that needed to be said was already said by you & the other commenters. I'm just glad that even with such a hateful group in their town, the town DID successfully elect a gay mayor. Yay for a tiny glimmer of hope in the darkest of places.

I find the name of their "church" to be ironic, as there is no outreach, no acceptance of the world, no peace (as represented by the dove) in their "church" at all.

Thank you for sharing this.

Those people are ignorant--Muslims weren't responsible for 9/11. Terrorists were. Terrorists come from all backgrounds and nationalities, but are pulled into a perversion of the Muslim religion which justifies killing people in the name of a 'Holy War' or 'Jihad'. They are Muslim extremists, not the run of the mill Muslim and it's prejudice to say otherwise.
When thinking of 'how does one tell the difference', the analogy: Islamic Extremist is to Islam as the KKK is to Christianity. Just because many of the KKK are Christian, does not make all Christians apart of the KKK.
It's ridiculous to assume so.
These people are making fools of themselves for demonizing an entire religion/culture because a few of their people just so happened to be bad.
Thank you so much for posting this, I've joined the group.
