A few days ago, a group of children from my neighborhood were out collecting items for the homeless shelter. This group of children included myself and sister, along with dozens of other children. This organization is called the Wagon of Warmth.
This is how it works. A week before collection day, each of the families in the organization takes a street and we distribute flyers to each of the houses. We have a list of things that are needed on it. These things are everything from non-perishable fo…

This is my first blog on the Harry Potter Alliance ning.
My name is Francis, and you may call me...Francis.
I'm a nerdfighter and have been for over a year (woot!) and have absolutely loved Harry Potter since Elementary school. But on to what this blog is about.
The Uncultured Project is a made of awesome project started by Shawn, a nerdfighter who dropped everything to start an unpaid and uncultured journey to help the poor in Bangladesh. If you haven't heard of the Uncultured Project, this vi…

Hey Everyone,
UPDATE: You can still call TODAY - TUESDAY NOVEMBER 3 to remind people to go to the polls and vote No on Question 1, a proposition that would destroy the rights of gays and lesbians in Maine to marry.
As you've probably heard, we're done with the House Competition system, and now anyone can do phone-banking as part of the "House of Awesome!" Here are specific instructions from Andi Wheeler of Mass Equality. It's really easy -- I promise! Also,
I've attach…

Since Halloween is in just one week, I thought I'd post this article from DoSomething.org. DoSomething.org is perfect for HPA members, because it's all about youth-led activism. In fact, they lead a free "social action training bootcamp" in New York. See

"Something will have gone out of us as a people if we ever let the remaining wilderness be destroyed; if we permit the last virgin forests to be turned into comic books and plastic cigarette cases; if we drive the few remaining members of the wild species into zoos or to extinction; if we pollute the last clear air and dirty the last clean streams and push our paved roads through the last of the silence, so that never again will Americans be free in their own country from the noise, the exhausts…

So, I realize I'm a bit late on the WWDD deal, but I wanted to write about it because I think its SO cool and a brilliantly inspirational idea.
Dumbledore represents everything that we all hope to become. Not perfect, because no one is perfect. But he has realized his weakness, and what could become his downfall, and he's overcome it. He is incredibly self aware because his goodness did not come completely naturally to him, he had to work on himself and master himself to get there. That is so a…

There's this cool new download deal by Vanguard Records that works like this: If you download (for free) a song called "Unity" by Trevor Hall, you are automatically making a donation to help orphans in India.
You do have to give your name and email, so if you don't feel comfortable with that, then I guess you can just give them an old email address that doesn't work...
But anyway, here's the link:

Dumbledore has taught me to love everyone, no matter who they are. Everyone deserves to be treated the same. Even if they are a real-life Voldemort. Everyone has some good in them, even if it is one single shred hidden deep, deep within their soul. Dumbledore has taught me to try and grasp that shred of good, and bring it to the surface. Make more good. And tell them to go and make more good. Love Everyone.

Dumbledore has taught me that Death is nothing to fear. It's just, another adventure! There are much worse things in this world than Death. It is nothing to fear. It's a new life, a second life. You are never truly dead. Never gone. All in all, Death is nothing you need to fear.

I just sewed an amazing little patch on to a T-shirt, it stated something simple and yet profound.
"Think Global Act Local"
While it was geared to enviornmental protection and how little things like recycling, using reusable shopping bags, turning off the lights, and taking the bus can add up if everyone does them. It also kind of means that we can change the world by starting with our own homes
This can be translated to many other causes, through consumer power and our daily actions, if enou…

Dear Dumbledore:
I met you when I was 6 years old, and I instantly looked up to you, your serenity, humor, compassion, intelligence, and overall disposition makes me feel at home with you.
You probably don't remember me, as I know you see thousands of students, and I am quite shy. I just wanted to tell you how you touched my life without even knowing it.
When I met you at 6 years old, my parents were divorceing, and you were there for me, always calm, always comforting. As a small child I saw…

I LOVE LUPIN
a very short play by Dean O’Carroll
Lights up on a small but comfortable cottage. A fire crackles in the fireplace.
NYMPHADORA TONKS is there with ALBUS DUMBLEDORE. They are knitting and have clearly been chatting for quite a while.
DUMBLEDORE
Alas, I appear to have wandered off pattern.
TONKS
I dunno, Professor, my Muggle aunt tried to teach me knitting when I was girl. Never really took to it.

It was always a hobby I wished to pursue in life, but only now do…

A man on the Harry Potter Alliance looked up and cried, “So... who wants to try a ‘What would Dedalus Diggle do?’” and a girl whispered back, “me!"
So anyways, now that I’m done parodying Watchmen, I present to you: What Would Dedalus Diggle do?”
-Wear Violet top hats (or Mauve)
-When introducing oneself use his last name first as in, “Diggle’s the name, Dedalus Diggle.” (And then order a Martini, shaken, not sirred... whoops, wrong story!)
-Join the Order of the Phoenix, or any other organiza…

A few days ago I met a real-life Dumbledore. It happened under very strange circumstances.
I had not been having a good day, so I had driven away from home and was driving in a neighbouring town in a continuous loop. I became really depressed because I hadn't talked to my girlfriend, and I was feeling really lousy in general, so while driving back home, I got the idea to drive to a church that I have never been to in my life.
Before I continue allow me to make one thing clear, I am an agnostic/…

Okay, so you know how in Lion King 1 and 1/2 Rafiki tells Timon to "Look beyond what you see." (Timon of course doesn't get it, as his mother told Timon later in the movie "Never use a metaphor on Timon) Anyways, I just thought that the line "look beyond what you see" is totally something Dumbledore does. He doesn't just look at people and see the color of the skin, their hair style, or their clothes, but instead he "looks beyond what he sees" and sees what that person truly is inside. So that's…

COLIN IT A DAY
a very short play by Dean O’Carroll
Lights up on the Great Hall of Hogwarts, but somehow even brighter and more lively than usual. STUDENTS are everywhere, enjoying the opening feast. Slytherins are notably absent and the Gryffindors, Hufflepuffs and Ravenclaws are all the more raucous because of this.
COLIN CREEVEY is there, with his camera. He is enthralled and starts snapping photos.
COLIN
This is amazing!
DUMBLEDORE is there behind him.
DUMBLEDORE

Yes, Albus Percival Wulfric Brian Dumbledore is the hope of the world today. Has anyone ever been as patient and serene as him since Jesus?
...apparently not.
Dumbledore is a wise man; flawed but nonetheless wise. He sees past all that rubbish about pure-bloods, muggle-borns and half-bloods. He would no doubt easily look past the typical stereotypes today.
He can out-wit evil and kick butt anyday.
Dumbledore rules.
Remember, when you make a decision that could have been over life and death,…
