Profile Information

How did you find out about the HP Alliance?
I was vaguely aware of the HPA through mentions of it on Pottercast and things like the Lord Waldemart videos, but didn't get actively involved until the information meeting at Prophecy 2007.
Which Hogwarts house do you belong to?
Gryffindor
Who is your favorite Harry Potter character?
Neville Longbottom
What is your favorite book?
Harry Potter, I Capture the Castle
What is your favorite kind of pizza?
Pepperoni and green olive

I'm a Gryffindor who until recently thought she was a Ravenclaw (thanks, Pottermore!). I'm also in a wizard rock band called Mopey Merope. Check out "This Album Is Not A Horcrux" to see my song and many others written about horcruxes in the HPA's Deathly Hallows Campaign. In addition to HP, I'm a huge fan of Lord of the Rings/The Hobbit, Doctor Who/Torchwood, Neil Gaiman, the Guild, Nerdfighteria, Hunger Games, and much, much more...

What "The Avengers" Can Teach Us About Activism

[NOTE: This blog post contains SPOILERS for the Avengers movie. If you haven't seen the film, be warned!]

“The Avengers” is everywhere these days. With a record-setting opening weekend of $200.3 million dollars, chances are a lot of us Harry Potter Alliance folks were among those who saw it. Which is why I thought I’d share something with you all. I’ve been reading a lot of articles about the movie recently and was struck by two in…

London Riots: "It's Like Hogwarts"

When things like this happen, it always brings up the same questions. For me it comes down to the dichotomous relationship between random destruction and purposeful creation. Senseless violence is easy and immediate, while positive change, actually adding something of significance to the world, is slow-going and often difficult. While this is disheartening to realize, it also makes me…

Positive Pranking

Since we at the HPA have accomplished awesome things with our friends the Nerdfighters before, I thought I'd share about John Green's latest video challenge because it seems like a totally HPA thing to do!

The idea is "positive pranking." For example: instead of ding-dong ditching (ringing the doorbell then running away), do Hostess Ding Dong ditching and leave a box of Hostess Ding Dongs with a friendly note on the doorstep before you ring the bell and run. Or, like John…

Prop 8 Decision Announced Wednesday (AKA Today!)

UPDATE:

As you've probably already seen from other blog posts, news articles, etc., Prop 8 was overturned!

Here's a quote from Shannon Minter with the National Center for Lesbian Rights:…

Scrimgeour

In the joyous afterglow of the HPAFTW success, I was surprised to find that a good friend (and fellow Potter fan) of mine didn't share in the collective happiness that was going around. This was a bit confusing to me - said friend has been a Potter fan for a decade now, and has often been involved with the fandom, including many HPA campaigns, before. Why wouldn't… Continue

Thanks for friending me! You could totally crash my dinner party, as long as you bring your favorite pizza! Green olives are an awesome and much-neglected topping.

Grace, since we live so close together (GA and NC), we should try and get together over the summer for a couple days. What do you think? I have relatives up in NC so I would love to come up.
