Nerdfighters for Water, the Uncultured Project, and other awesome things.

This is my first blog on the Harry Potter Alliance ning.
My name is Francis, and you may call me...Francis.
I'm a nerdfighter and have been for over a year (woot!) and have absolutely loved Harry Potter since Elementary school. But on to what this blog is about.

The Uncultured Project is a made of awesome project started by Shawn, a nerdfighter who dropped everything to start an unpaid and uncultured journey to help the poor in Bangladesh. If you haven't heard of the Uncultured Project, this vi… Continue

Mr. Slack Goes To Washington

I just arrived in DC where I'll be speaking at the Pledge 2 Protect conference about how anti-genocide activists can create viral videos, and of course promoting the HPA.

I feel as though I have been slightly disconnected from the anti-genocide movement for a bit - in part because the HPA has been focusing on Leaky Con, Azkatraz, WWDD, Nine and Three Quarters, Magical Acts of Kindness, Wrock 4 Equality, etc. and in part because I feel that the anti-g… Continue

My New Room-mate, and how people can be quite mean.

I was just introduced to my new roommate. My previous one left because she didn't like the dorms, primarily the amount of space, so she got an apartment and left. We got along. Not friends or anything, but we would chat occasionally and stuff.

I immediatly got along quite well with my new roommate. We introduced each other, then had a converstation on Harry Potter, she saw my posters. We talked about going to the midnight releases and stuff, and how Dumbldedore is totally awesome, with his scar… Continue

What I Saw When I was in Maine

There is no doubt about it- Maine hurts. In fact, there are so many emotions running through me, from denial, to pain, to anger, that it is going to take a while to sort them all out.

But there is one story that we can't lose in all of this- family.

Here is what one of my friends said after she had gone door to door in Maine before the vote:

"my canvass partner for No on 1 today was a 79 yr old evangelical Christian named Dot. Her 44 yr old gay son lives in CA and wants to marry his partner o… Continue

Wrock for equality results and meeting

Ok so I was home sick from school today. I woke up I guess arounf nine I don't remember and I got a text from twitter. It was Andrew Slack saying there was a meeting tonight about Maine. I quickly tweeted asking hom what the results were since I had no idea. He replied "Marriage equality narrowly lost in maine." All I wanted to do was crawl back in my bed and cry. But then I got to thinking. Yes we lost, but we will win in the long run. There is no way things will stay like this way forever. We w… Continue

Order of the Mustangs/Maine

First, to the Order of the Mustangs, well done. I would very much like to be contacted by one of you. I am from Texas, and I was wondering if you guys were located in the West Orange-Stark School District?

As for Maine. We may have lost the battle but we WILL win the war.

It hurts me quite badly that we lost. I'm angry that we lost in an area that is normally pretty solidly for gay rights. We must not allow ourselves to worry over the past. We must focus on the here and now and the future.

I… Continue

I just don't know what to say

I'm horribley upset that we lost in Maine, to just a few percent at that. How can people be so narrow minded?
I just don't see how letting more people get married would be a bad thing to some people.

I don't know if it would be more appropriate to cry, or to scream.

One thing that I do know, we can't let this stop us. I know we got defeated, and it hurts, really bad, but this absolutley cannot be the end. This will be on the ballot again soon, maybe not in Maine, but somewhere else, and when i… Continue

I think I may just cry...

Yes on One has declared victory. Votes still coming in. With 84% of precincts reporting, it's 52.75% for yes.

I have checked several sources for the past few hours. Here is a short article I found on the web a few seconds ago. Most of my sources are saying the same thing...

Another Equality Update: this is neck and neck!

This election couldn't be more neck and neck. The voter turn out was huge today - far more than what folks expected in Maine. I'm a bit on the edge of my seat: Nate Silver sounds a lot less optimistic than he did earlier today. Rural votes are still coming in. This is pretty nerve racking. But this really really really could go in either direction.

Wrock 4 Equality Update

The polls in Maine have closed. The latest that I've heard is that the turnout in Maine is unusually high. This should be good news for all of us who are for marriage equality since "the game" here is that in an off-election the people that would most likely vote, are older and more likely to be against marriage equality. More people voting likely means that Prop One has electrified Maine voters and likely, it'… Continue
